This is My Brave Show: Auditions Open

this is my brave

This is My Brave, the show: “Opening up about Mental Illness” is the brainchild of passionate blogger and mental health advocate Jennifer Marshall (@bipolarmomlife). I wrote about her endeavor earlier last year when she Kickstarted her event (with success) and now that the event is set and auditions are scheduled, I wanted to share more info.

SAVE THE DATE and Schedule your Audition:

WHEN: Sunday, February 23rd – 1:00pm-3:00pm and Sunday, March 2nd – 1:00-3:00pm

WHERE: Both days auditions will be held at the Ashburn Public Library – 43316 Hay Road, Ashburn, VA 20147.

HOW: To secure your audition spot, please send an email to auditions@thisismybrave.com with your name, type of piece (essay, song or poetry) and preferred date. Auditions will be scheduled on a first come, first served basis.

WHAT: This Is My Brave will function as a platform for people with something positive to say about living with ‪mental illness. It’s time we bring mental health issues into the spotlight because they’ve been in the dark too long. This is an effort to encourage people to be brave and to stand up and talk about mental illness.

WHEN: Sunday, May 18th at 4pm

WHERE: Artisphere’s Spectrum Theatre 1611 N. Kent Street Arlington, VA 22209

BUY TICKETS: Visit EventBrite, tickets are $15 each

WHAT: A weekly Twitter chat to encourage folks to talk openly about mental illness in a positive, supportive way. These are open discussions on mental health. Those facilitating and participating are not medical professionals. Each are simply people who have each been impacted by a mental health disorder and want to change the way society talks about mental illness. For the better. For the future. For all of us.

WHEN: Wednesdays at 6pm PST/9pm EST

HOW: Follow and tweet with the hashtag #BraveChat

Twitter chats work like this: Hop onto Twitter and follow us: @ThisIsMyBrave. During the chat time, you can search for “#BraveChat” in the top center search bar right above your main feed. They’ll start with a few questions to get the conversation going. Jump right in whenever you’re ready, adding the hashtag #BraveChat at the end of your tweet. Answer a question, connect with people. Just be yourself.

There is only one stipulation to participating in the #BraveChat. Please follow one of the rules you probably learned in kindergarten: “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say it at all.” Please. This his experience should be positive and supportive for everyone involved.

Buy your Own BRAVE Bracelet

WHAT: Purchase a BRAVE bracelet in any one of six colors: Dusty Rose, Smokey Gray, Lime Green, Bold Red, Pumpkin Orange or Turquoise. Three sizes available: Small (6.5″), Medium (7″ – most common) and Large (7.5″ or specify). Each bracelet is $15 + $2.50 shipping within the United States.

When Jenn Kickstarted her event, I backed it and in return received two bracelets like these (one grey and one teal leather). I’ve decided to giveaway the turquoise bracelet on the blog to one lucky reader.

In addition, if you’re in the DC area or know someone who is, you can enter to win 2 tickets to This is My Brave, the show (retail value $30)! See info and entry forms below.

  1. This is awesome! I struggle with pretty extreme post-partum depression and anxiety. I’ve been regaining my intuition through spiritual awareness and it has truly been helping thus far. I can’t wait to see how much progress I can make in one year if I can make this much in one month.

Bummed I’m just finding out about #bravechat but I will definitely join in next Wednesday!
