GUEST POST By: Morgann of Glitter in the Grey
I’d like to welcome Morgann, a fellow Pacific Northwesterner and style blogger. I started following her earlier this year and asked her to guest post because I love getting her posts in my inbox, and thought you would too. Her style is fun but very doable for us busy working moms (whether we work at home or in an office.) And for me thinking about my style actually does make me feel better. Thanks so much Morgann to being here!
So many of us are Moms, caregivers, multiple-job holders, busybusybusy ladies. Often times, women of that general description tend to put themselves last when it comes to shopping or even thinking about themselves. It’s a shame, really. Trust me, there is time in the day to take care of yourself and not miss a beat with all of your other requirements.
My name is Morgann, I write a style blog called Glitter in the Grey. The purpose? Besides my never-ending love (& fascination) with fashion is to add a little bit of sparkle to grey Seattle days. I don’t wear glitter (often), but I do try to sparkle, whether it be with a polished outfit, lipstick, or fun accessories. I’m also a mom of 3 under 8 with various volunteer and professional commitments, and what seems like an endless to-do list. Sound familiar?
Everyone wants to feel good. Not everyone understands that looking good is tied that. You don’t have to spend a bunch of money to look good, you just have to make time for it. Maybe it’s setting the alarm 15 minutes earlier so you can be sure to have time to wash and dry your hair. Or use 3 skincare/makeup products instead of….zero? Or accessorize with a scarf or a statement necklace.
My goal is to get women dressed every day. We all wear clothes, but getting dressed is actually putting on an outfit. If you’re one of those women who typically wears yoga pants and hoodie multiple times per week (and isn’t actually going to yoga?)…I’m talking to you! There’s nothing wrong with a sporty look, if it’s intentional, and not because you’re pulling on those stretchy pants because they’re on the floor and they fit.
Coming to terms with and loving your body is something I’ve struggled with since puberty. I certainly don’t have the body I want, but you know what, it’s mine. I have to work with what I have and make the best of it…Rock what I’ve got…and so should you! I’ve been the new mom in cozy clothes and unless your baby is under 6 months, daily cozy clothes are out. There is a way to still feel cozy, but look nice (both for yourself and others).
There is a way to turn casual/active wear into everyday wear. One of my favorite flips is a yoga pant. Whether you’re headed from the gym or not, pairing them back to a cardigan and flats and adding some jewelry changes the look completely. Add some lip gloss and you’ve gone from casual blah to casual chic.
I work from home more often than not, plus schlep around 3 kids to school, Target, swim practice, appointments and play dates. I understand not every day is one where you feel like putting on an outfit, but when you’re clean and polished, even in jeans and a tee, you’ll feel good, and others will notice.
I was spotted wearing this outfit at Target one morning in April. My girlfriend said, “Oh, you look nice! Are you going to take blog pictures today?”….It hadn’t even crossed my mind (I was un-showered & in my opinion, wearing a boring outfit!) But here’s the thing, I had washed my face, put on makeup, plopped a hat on my matted hair, and actually felt good. And it showed.
