Postpartum weight, mental-health and body image issues have really affected me during the last 5 years, but over the summer I finally–miraculously–found the inspiration and determination to take action for ME. I’ve been feeling great about the new size 10 me.
I’ll never be a size 2, and my body certainly has its flaws like most of us mamas, but I’m having a great time figuring out what looks good and feels good on me.
Shopping and fashion feel fun again.
I’m finding myself much more interested in trying new things, in my own “bargain-hunt for quality” way. My Grandma taught me well, the importance of quality garments and shoes. (She was a tailor for many years.) She was also the queen of bargains. She knew what items were worth an investment, and what items she could find at a discount.
I know that up-to-the-minute runway fashion probably won’t ever make it in my closet. And that’s OK, I don’t need to spend that kind of money anyway. But that doesn’t mean that I can’t have style. And honestly I’m finding lately that when I feel good about me, I want to feel good about what I’m wearing too. I want to wear garments and shoes that help me feel even more confident, powerful and sexy (like I’ve been feeling on the inside).
And you know what makes me feel confident and sexy?
Channeling my inner cowgirl.
I can’t tell you how thrilled I was to connect with Country Outfitter on this journey. I’ve been coveting their gorgeous boots for some time. I remember having a pair of “fake” cheapy cowboy boots in college (many many moons ago) and feeling quite long and lean and confident walking in them. The prospect of owning a pair of handcrafted-in-the-USA, fabulously embroidered cowgirl boots made this mama very happy. Particularly since I received my box of Justin Boots the day before Thanksgiving, 3 days before my 39th birthday! What terrific timing.
Here’s my little helper opening the box with me. Don’t we all just love getting boots in the mail?!
And oh, I love those boots!
I admit it took a couple of days–not to break them in, they are so soft and flexible–but to get used to using new muscles to walk in them. But after that they really feel perfect. I’ve been wearing them every day since (seriously. every. day.) and I’ve even found myself forgetting to take them off when I get home. I think I could walk in them for hours, no problem.
As for Country Outfitter, their selection is wonderful. If you want to channel your inner cowgirl too, there are numerous options at many price points. If cowgirl life isn’t for you, they also have a good selection of other lovely boots, apparel and accessories. But do understand, you’re making an investment in a high quality pair of shoes that will last, just like Grandma always taught me.
If you’re shopping for the holidays, they have this handy gift guide by price point (under $50, under $100 and up) to help you HERE.
Or guess what?!?
I am just thrilled to share that one Motherhood Unadorned reader will WIN a $150.00 gift card to Country Outfitter just in time for the Christmas holiday.
Can you say YEE-HAW!?!
I had a lot of fun looking through Country Outfitter’s site and finding just a few of the options available for $150 or less to show you. Man they have a ton of boots to choose from! (And of course the winner can always apply the gift card toward more expensive boots.)
SO…what could YOU pick up with an awesome $150.00 gift card?

Disclosure: CountryOutfitter, a retailer of women’s cowboy boots sent me the Justin Camel Deertanned Cow boots to review. The company also offered to sponsor a giveaway to one of the readers of Motherhood Unadorned. No other monetary compensation was received. The opinions above are absolutely my own.
