Ellie (now 2 1/2) has never used a “lovie,” unless of course you count me.
She’s still breastfeeding and very attached, even at night. I’d really love to taper off nights at this point, but she’s also such a snuggler. She likes to feel that connection, even when sleeping.
A few weeks ago I was thinking about this, wondering whether “lovies” help kids with stress or anxiety, because my very own blanky growing up truly did help me. I wonder if Ellie had more of an attachment to an object while sleeping, would she need me less? To test my theory I got her a very special personalized blanky that she helped me “build” online from MyUbby.
MyUbby is a small family-owned business that crafts lovely personalized blankets and lovies. You can “build” your very own blanket at MyUbby.com by selecting from more than 50 fabrics, 12 satin edge colors (or serge-finished edge) and up to 54 characters of embroidery in three sizes “itty bitty” 15-inch, original 35-inch x 45-inch or big 50-inch x 60-inch.
Ellie and I had a lot of fun picking colors together on the computer. She just loves playing with my computer any chance she gets! She chose the smooth fabric on one side in hot pink and the bubble fabric in lilac on the other, with a serge-finished edge. We put her name and birthday on the purple side in hot pink stitching.
It is SO cute! And SO super soft and cozy.
When it arrived, Ellie was so excited to see her name on it that she immediately dubbed it “my blanky.” We’ve had it about a week and a half and she carries it upstairs and down, and many nights has made sure to bring it up to sleep. The jury is still out as to whether it will become a “true” lovie for her, but its a good start.
This is a high quality custom blanket that you might find in a nice children’s boutique. The quality of the fabric is great, its heavy but not too thick. And the blanket is very warm and cozy, without being too hot. We really like it!
I especially love that MyUbby is family-owned and named after the lovie of the owners’ first born son. He called his blanket “ubby” and it stuck.
Now for the really exciting part.

I would have the blanket made for my baby girl who is due in February. My almost three year old doesn’t have a lovey either. I still have my “blankie” from when I was growing up, it was something I “needed” until I got married, now I don’t even think about it.
