We’ve created a team for our local American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Out of the Darkness Walk. If you’d like to find a walk in your area, please click HERE.
Our team MotherhoodUnadorned/ PurposefulPractices will once again be walking around Green Lake in Seattle on October 13 to raise funds and awareness for suicide prevention and mental health awareness. Just because I’m not dying my hair blue this year doesn’t mean its not important to me.
I’ve lost more than one friend to suicide. And it just SUCKS when a loved one isn’t able to reach out and get help.
I’ve been suicidal in the past. And it is INCREDIBLE when others find the strength to reach out and save a friend.
We’re all in this together. To fight the stigma of mental illness. To let others know we’re not alone.
I’d like to quote my teammate Brittney who posted this today on Facebook:
“Suicide is not something people speak about often.
In school they talk about all sorts of things like drugs, and sex ed, and bullying, harassment, failing grades, dropping out, etc, but they never actually come out and talk about suicide. Sometimes at work you may hear that someone has been lost, but many times you never hear the how, and those that they don’t talk about are those that may have chosen to leave us by their own hands.
I hope that by joining this walk again this year that I bring suicide into the light and let anyone know that there are so many sources to seek help, so many people to talk to, so many stories from families that are broken now after losing someone.
It’s bad enough that we lose people in accidents, it’s bad enough that we lose people from sickness that we can not cure, please please reach out for help if you need. Whether it is to me, as we are friends, or whether it is seeking help at any of the sources on the AFSP website, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (1-800-273-8255) or any one of the thousands of places you can get help, just please seek help, don’t keep it to yourself.
If you donate for the walk or not, please if anything, spread the word and make sure to always tell people you love and appreciate them. Sometimes it’s as simple as that to keep a person off the edge.”
Amen Britt!
If you’d like to join our team in Seattle, do so HERE. Or you may also donate to our team HERE.
Hope to see you October 13!
