I’m #notabadmom because I’m happy school’s back

My kids aren’t even in REAL school yet, but man I’m oh so happy that school is back in session. Actually this is the first time Ellie (2 1/2) has EVER gone to school and she’s only in one morning a week. But I love having a couple hours of ME time!

And that doesn’t make me a bad mom.

My oldest Ronin (almost 5) is now in Pre-K 4 days a week. I still have Ellie during that window but its a nice break to only have 1 kid at home.

If you haven’t guessed it, I’m a stay at home mom.

I’m VERY blessed to be able to be at home with my kids. I know not everyone can or chooses to do so. And even though I understand that its lucky we can afford it, its also not always easy.

Having work to go to sometimes sounds like a vacation.

I worked for many years. I didn’t have kids until I was 34 so I had my entire 20s and then some to be a “real” adult with adult interaction and adult activities as the main focus of my life. Now my Facebook feed is mostly photos of “the world’s most adorable kids” (to me!) and all the super fun activities we do.

There are days when the only activity I WANT to do is sleep, or drink because I’m just so bored focusing on only my kids. (Does that sound bad!?!)

Really truly I LOVE them with all of my heart. I adore watching them grow and change and learn. I love sharing their little lives with them, snuggling with them (we’re a snuggly family!) and playing with them.

But I also love writing, reading, watching TV, shopping, actually going on dates with my husband and having “personal” time with him. Things that typically get pushed to the back burner because the kids are our priority.

So, to me, the school year begins and I get a little extra time for ME…and I’m OK with that. I’m definitely NOT a bad mom because of it.

What do you love about the start of the school year?

  1. I don’t know about stuff like school, yet, but it sounds like you and I have a lot in common when it comes to reasons to stay home! I’m so excited for all the fun stuff you describe and fully expect to experience boredom during those less exciting times. When my baby comes, I will NOT be a bad mom if I want someone else to take care of him for a day while I enjoy quiet ME time!
