Saturday is International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day.
I think you all have probably heard that I started this blog after the suicide of a dear life-long friend of mine Dina. So this day is my day, but its also the day of so many of my friends and our high school community, who have also been living with her loss. Her parents, her brother, her son.
She’s not the first loved one I’ve lost to suicide. Years ago, a family member I didn’t even know. The relative of a childhood boyfriend. The attempt by a college friend while we were in school. A friend from college Matt.
For every. single. one. of the estimated one million deaths by suicide each year, there are so. many. more. of us living with the guilt, anger and sadness. I honor each of us with a post today at Postpartum Progress HERE. Please click over, read and let me know your thoughts. I could really use your support this day, and this month as we approach our birthdays (Dina’s and mine are 2 days apart next week) and the one year anniversary of her death next month.
Tomorrow I’ll be sharing a post here written by a fellow “survivor”. Please come back and share your love with her too.
If you are struggling, please reach out.

After the death of her son my sister keep a journal. In it she asked many questions, she went down many roads, it helped her heal, it will make you cry. Her words carry you through a journey of a mother’s grief of the pain as she internalizes and learns to accept that which has no answer; the suicide of her 22 year old son.
Becky has learned to help other’s through this time. After searching and not finding the help she needed she and friends (other mothers of children who died of suicide) created a support group for parents and survivors affected by suicide. She has said that every meeting is bittersweet. To know that the group only grows through the loss of a suicide. And yet, because the group continues to grow, there is a very strong need for the comfort and support that these women have created.
Wanting to reach further she took the brave step to publish the words from her heart: her “Note To Adam”
In Becky’s words ” Please help me spread awareness, break the silence and help others, from grief to grace, by purchasing my book. I will use the proceeds to educate and heal, myself and others. Thank you each and every one. Godspeed. Adam’s mom”
I will thank-you for your time in reading this.
